French bicycle manufacturer Vitus pioneered the design and manufacture of lugged and bonded aluminium bicycle frames. One of their top models of classic bicycles in the past and still today is the 979, which, because of its smaller tubes diameter, offered more comfort than other classic bike aluminium frames.
Being advanced in 1982, Vitus produced the 979 Carbone. At this stage this model was one of the first classic bicycle frames made of carbon fibres. Always looking for progression, Vitus developed carbon fiber semi-monocoque bike frames, like the ZX-1, which, among other Vitus classic bicycles, is one of the most wanted models of this brand.
Vitus built a strong partnership with Sean Kelly, one of the most formidable and successful cyclists who rose to prominence in the 1980s. According to Kelly himself, he rode Vitus bikes in no less than 80% of his professional career victories. Kelly was particularly linked to the Vitus 979.
