Cicli Pinarello S. p. A. is one of the most recognisable names in the history of cycling. Founded in 1952 by Giovanni ‘Nani’ Pinarello in Treviso, Italy, Pinarello is responsible for some of the most important and revolutionary frame technologies in cycling.
Before starting the Pinarello legend, Nani was a successful cyclist himself. Between 1946 to 1953, he won the Giro delle Dolomiti and Rome-Naples-Rome. However, he gained infamy for being the winner of the 1951 Giro d’Italia maglia nera, the black jersey, awarded to the final finisher.
The following year, his team expelled him from the Giro squad at the last moment, compensating him with 100,000 lire for his troubles. Using the very same money, Giovanni set up and opened a workshop to begin building his own bicycles. The Pinarello shop opened in 1953, achieving a few small successes as a team sponsor during the 60s.
It wasn’t until 1975 before the great history of Pinarello’s palmarès would begin, as Fausto Bertoglio won the Giro d’Italia. From here, the heroic stories would begin. Miguel Indurain’s hour record. Rossin is an Italian classic bicycle manufacturer founded in 1974 and from the beginning it’s had one aim: to win. In doing so, it has become one of the leaders in cycling design and engineering.
In 1973, disagreements arose between Vittorio Ghezzi of Itla and Colnago, after they facilitated Baronchelli’s move to Scic instead of promoting Ghezzi’s new professional team. This fuelled Ghezzi to challenge Colnago and set up a company to manufacture highly competitive bikes. He recruited Mario Rossin, who had worked for many years at Colnago and was a wielding genius. The creative Inzaghi joined them, along with Domenico Garbelli, and Ghezzi’s son. Rossin was officially born on 14th September 1974.
Initially, Rossin bicycles was competing in amateur races and making a reputation for itself from the ground up. It wasn’t until 1977 that Rossin bikes made their professional debut at the Laigueglia Trophy as part of the GBC Itla racing team.
Over the next couple of years Rossin grew in size and reputation and in the early eighties started sponsoring the professional Belgian racing team Daf Trucks, led by Roger De Vlaeminck. Every year that went by allowed their expertise and experience to grow, leading them in 1983 to provide track bikes to the national teams of Russia and America. The bikes were were the first models ever to be equipped with disk wheels (launched by Rossin in the same year), horned handlebars and sloped upper-tube frames.

Before introducing Olmo vintage bicycles it is interesting to find out about how this brand was founded and how it became so successful. Giuseppe Olmo was one of Italy's most famous cyclists in the 1930s. With a Italian amateur team called Azzurri he achieved second place in the World Cup in Denmark in 1931. At the Los Angeles Olympics in the following year he was awarded a gold medal in the team time races. He became then a professional cyclist, signed with Bianchi and this partnership was very successful. Between 1932 and 1938 Olmo won the Milan-Sanremo twice and many stages in the Giro d'Italia and the Italian National Road Race Championships. Olmo additionally beat the world one hour record in 1935.
When Olmo retired in 1938 he went back to his hometown of Celle Ligure, which is where he founded the classic bicycle brand Olmo Biciclette.These high quality steel bicycles can be compared to the well-known classic bikes of Colnago. Olmo used his experience as an athlete in the development of new bicycles. Olmo's vintage bicycles became very popular and the brand grew to produce not only racing bicycles, but also city bikes and mountain bikes. The production of Olmo bicycles is still located in Italy. The brand remains a very popular choice today, for both the range of vintage bicycles built in the 70s and 80s and the range of new designs which are being developed for the future.
