Description
Ernesto Colnago is not only one of the most influential persons in Italian bike building, he also was a clever marketing pioneer.
When, in the 1970s many people longed for the successful models of professional racers, like the Colnago Mexico or Super, it was clear that they were too expensive for a large number of potential customers.
Besides his main brand he established side-projects like Colner to sell more bikes and some models were branded after famous riders like Saronni or Roger de Vlaeminck.
This idea was also behind this Colnago Eco CDX classic road bicycle. With small changes to the professional-level Super model, it was possible to lower the price of the bike enough to make it affordable for club riders. As a genuine Colnago however, it features some classic details known from the bikes made in Cambiago in the 1980s.
As for the frame, the geometry stayed more or less the same but the Columbus SL tubing was changed for a slightly heavier gauge. As a side-effect, the frame became more stable.
That would be fine, but our piece stands apart and from some point of view it might be one of the most interesting and rare Colnago bikes you can buy. Firstly, it is in NOS condition and it has never been ridden. That means the frame and all the parts shine just as they did almost 40 years ago and you would struggle to find a mere scratch on the chainrings, rims or anywhere else. Second reason why this Colnago is so special are the parts. Unlike common setups consisting of Gipiemme or Modolo parts, it has been fitted with fine French equipment. Nice Stronglight, Simplex or Mafac parts have have the Spidel branding and the extra smooth hubs are the legendary Mavic 501 ones.
A unique chance to add such model into your Colnago collection.
