Beschreibung

Turin, a very industrial city of Northern Italy, was home of some of the best frame builders and most prestigious brands throughout the golden age of cycling.
World famous brands such as Gios Torino were the springboard for rather small artisans who worked outside the spotlight and who were renowned among enthusiasts for their fine, tailor-made steel frames. The Giamé brothers and Giuseppe Pelà for example used to work for Gios torino.

Giuseppe Pelà certainly is one of the most representative frame builders of the rich Torinese tradition. Not only did he build frames for champions as Eddy Merckx, Jacques Anquetil and Rik Van Looy, but also for famous brands. Beside Gios, the more famous are Masi and Benotto. Particularly humble, Pelà never wanted his name branded on his framesets. Instead, he preferred to "sign" his works with some undeniable, refined marks which make every Pelà frame recognisable amongst hundreds. It is said, he also decided to do so in order to avoid any possible conflict of interest with his clients. So the typical Pelà signs are four cut outs under the BB shell and slots with a point in the middle on the fork crown.

This Gios Record by Pelà from 1971 which was built as a team bike, shows – of course – the distinctive signs of the master: the four cut outs under the BB shell and the slots with a point in the middle on the fork crown. Here the cutouts have been executed as simple squares, whereas most other Pelà frames show swung forms.
Other small details like little drillings were likely added later by either the Giamè brothers or the rider of the bike.

Our particular frame was built for a rider of the Fiat Team or the Dilettanti Lainatese, the amateur team of Lainate city. And is a fine example of a very early Gios Record model at the same time.
Weh had the frame refurbished at Gios Torino and checked all the parts

This bicycle is ready to be ridden. Suitable for all Eroica events worldwide and a nice piece for collectors.

A fine example of true, genuine craftsmanship and a witness of the great Torinese cycling tradition. Simply perfect.
