Beschreibung

Hans Theo Mittendorf was a German frame building authority who came up with clever solutions on his custom made frames. And he exclusively built bespoke, custom made bikes. So to no surprise, the number of frames which he built is very limited compared to the ones of other frame builders who also stocked frames in the most common sizes.
And being a grumpy cat, he also took the freedom to turn offers down if he simply did not like the customer's character.

Mittendorf started racing bikes in the 1950s and very early on started to build his own frames, which he eventually turned into a profession that he carried on until 2002. Along his way he developed some innovative dropouts and seat post clamps.

What we can offer you here is a rather small Mittendorf Artisan Lightweight Roadbike from ca. 1980. Like many Mittendorf bikes, it is designed in a rather simple, classic and prosaic way - that is what you might think of it at first glance. In fact it is a hidden champion.

The tubes are Reynolds 531 extra light ones, the like of which you usually only find on professional bikes. The rear dropouts have been twisted inside - a typical Mittendorf hallmark which allowed him to balance the rear triangle in a way that allowed for more evenly tensioned wheels to be used.

As componentry we find a rather rare and excellent Galli Criterium groupset including the original pedals with Titanium spindles, an FT Bologna bottom bracket with titanium spindle or the headset with needle bearings.
The saddle is a really rare Concor Supercorsa with Aluminium rails!
All the other parts are top class, too, just like the 27t Marchisio freewheel which makes this bike a perfect L'Eroica contender.

We could continue this description a fair bit, but we think, the pictures tell the whole story very well. Maybe though we should give away that the whole bike, including pedals weighs just 8.75kg. Amazing.
