Beschreibung

Wilier Triestina is an Italian manufacturer of racing bicycles, founded in 1906 by Pietro Dal Molin. Pietro was born in Bassano del Grappa (Italy) and set up his first modest workshop on the banks of the Brenta river in San Fortunato. Perhaps it was this idyllic setting that inspired Pietro to create such majestic pieces of rolling art?. Wilier Triestina is now based in Rossano Veneto and they continue to innovate cycling performance and elevate Italian design.

The company name originated as an acronym for the phrase “W l’Italia liberata e redenta”, where the W is an abbreviation for "Viva!" (It translates to “Long live Italy, liberated and redeemed!”). Triestina comes from the name of the city of Trieste – not part of Italy when Wilier was founded – and reflects a patriotic desire for it to be rejoined.

Italians and enthusiasts all over the world have been winning races (cyclist Fiorenzo Magni rode Wilier bikes in his 1948 Giro d'Italia win, as well as his 1949 and 1950 Tour of Flanders wins), and getting all the attention at club runs for decades while on a Wilier. This example for the 1960’s is undoubtedly a show stopper, as it was lucky enough to get the stunning “Ramata” paint treatment. “Ramata" is Italian for “copper-coated,” a process where a thin copper coating over chromed tubes creates a unique, translucent paint job. It’s easily one of the finest finishes in all of vintage cycling, and this paintwork has been expertly restored by the team at today’s Wilier.

The frameset - made of light, butted steel tubes - is equipped with Campagnolo parts, a first-generation Record groupset, complemented by Universal brakes and levers. For their time, these were simply the best components available and proof positive that the Tipo La Triestina model was the flagship of the Wilier Triestina brand.

Collectors and riders will equally appreciate this breathtaking example of Italian bicycle manufacturing at its finest, and we invite you to treat yourself to this glorious piece of cycling history!

The bike has thoroughly checked in our workshop. Ready to ride.
