Diamant is a Belgian brand founded by an ex-professional rider August Simons in Bekkevoort, Belgiun. The brand was quite popular mainly on the domestic market as well as in Netherlands or indeed Germany. It was also very active in bike competitions by sponsoring a wide range of racing teams. The top models and so the bikes for the athletes were made by no one else than the very skilled Belgian frame builder Eddy Martens.
This Diamant road racer is such a bicycle. It is made of light and strong Columbus SL tubes in the mid 1990s and you can tell by many fine details that this frame has been made by a very skilled hand and with care. Obviously, it is constructed using lugs and actually all of them except the highly reinforced bottom bracket have been chromed. All of the dropouts have been lugged as well, increasing the stability of the frame further more.
Instead of the standard seat stays Eddy Martens chose an extravagant monostay, sometimes also called a wishbone stay. This slightly more flexible solution has been used by a Belgian Pro team Collstrop and the riders raced on the "Eddy's" Diamants with just a seatstay.
A high class bike deserves high class parts and you cannot go any higher then the full Campagnolo Record 8-speed groupset, Cinelli stem, bars and the exquisite Mavic Open Pro Ceramic rims.
This bike doesn't do any compromises. The splendid frame paired with best Camapagnolo components is totally capable of serious riding and will remain to be in many decades to come.
