Eddy Merckx road bikes were very present in the Peloton during the last decade of steel frame dominance, namely from the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s. This was, simply spoken, because they were absolutely superb bicycles. Designed with the most demanding echelons of road racers in mind, Eddy Merckx' brand was the choice of a vast number of professional teams and their bikes were crafted with the necessary attention to detail and expertise of master frame builders.
Our bright and fine bicycle is an example of this quality, a custom Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra bicycle from the very beginning of 1990s. The frame is made of the first choice in professional peloton in those days - Columbus SLX. This tubing is light, strong and it has inner helical reinforcements which further improved stability. Eddy Merckx factory manufactured many frames on special demand and so one can come across special paintjobs, additional braze-ons, excessive chroming or indeed custom made geometry. The latter is the case of our Corsa Extra. It features a special geometry with shorter seat tube and comparably longer top tube.
The top racing Shimano Dura-Ace 7400 series groupset matches the frame perfectly and it works like you would expect - like a clockwork. The Mavic Open Pro SSC clincher rims are also worth mentioning.
This bicycle has been fully checked and is in great working condition.
