Description
With the same meticulous intent on the details, which he had shown during his racing career, Eddy Merckx started to build bicycles under his name. In 1979 he had Ugo de Rosa, 'the master' help him training his employees and setting up his manufacture in Belgium.
You also can easily see de Rosa's influence on the design of Eddy Merckx' bikes as far as his 1980s models are concerned.
Right from the start on, Eddy equipped professional teams with his machines and his bikes were loved for their unpretentious performance.
After some years, The Merckx manufacture added a second model to their line, which before consisted mainly of the 'Professional' and later the 'Corsa Extra'.
To offer a high performance machine with the same race proven geometry but for ambitious amateurs, Columbus Cromor tubing was chosen for the Eddy Merckx Strada.
This tubeset was slightly less expensive than SL for example, but had the same size with a marginally thicker down tube - specifications which made it specifically interesting for strong riders and sprinters.
Our Strada still sports the original paintjob. It is the paint scheme of the German team Stuttgart for the 1989 season and it even sports the racing number holder brazed onto the the top tube.
As for the parts, it is equipped with Campagnolo Chorus and Veloce parts with 8-speed shifting operated from the brake levers. It is also fitted with the deep section Campagnolo Scirocco wheels with flat spokes and fine pantographed Cinelli AX stem.
Our bike has been thoroughly checked, parts have been replaced where necessary.
