Description:

In the late 1950s, Fausto Coppi wanted to start producing his own classic Italian racing bicycles. He made a deal with Fiorelli in Novi Ligure for the manufacture of bicycles under his name. These vintage bicycles were very similar to Fiorelli's own designs, apart from the finish and branding. When the Campionissimo passed away in a malaria fever in 1960, this contract was still valid and the production of Fausto Coppi branded bicycles continued. Later on, the Company Masciaghi got the rights to the brand Coppi and, in the early 1990s, engaged the frame building legend Pelizzoli to design their frames. From then on there were victories on Coppi bikes again. Their Team Polti was incredible successful.

Our Fausto Coppi Classic Racing Bike in its lovely 1990s style comes from exactly this era, from around 1993. The build is proof that even bikes for ambitious amateurs were made with attention to detail.
As for the parts this Coppi is equipped with a rather rare top class Sachs New Success group. Being a traditional bike components producer, Sachs took a last big attempt at offering a complete groupset to the professional market before they were acquired by Sram. As competition grew between Shimano and Campagnolo, there were less and less market margins left for companies like Sachs.

The Sachs New Success was based on a strategy that aimed at more cooperation between European expert producers. So the brakes were made by Modolo, arguably the champions of brakes back then. The hubs were legendary Maillard/Mavic sealed ones. Crankset and Brifters were basically Campagnolo Chorus. In fact, the shifting was developed for Campagnolo by Sachs. And, of course, the derailleurs were a cooperation between Sachs and Campagnolo, too. Despite being a very well working groupset, the New Success was not able to bring Sachs back into the game. And if you are able to find a complete exemplar today, you are rather lucky.

Despite a fantastic groupset, our Coppi has an impressive paintjob. Well, it is not the original one but it has been repainted with some skill: There are no decals. The writings are actually painted! This turns the whole bike into an extravagant piece of jewelry.
The bike is suitable for all kinds of activities, including longer weekend escapes. Completely checked and ready to go!
