We do not know much about the Gibi manufacture and in how it might be connected to the pro-rider Gianbattista Baronchelli, whose nickname was Gibi.
Waht we know is that it must have been a small company and that it was reportedly bought by a Belgian guy in 1987 and from then on had its main business over in Belgium.
So we can stick to the bike we have here which is a very classy artisan frame, painted with a great choice of colour. And actually the frame is fully refurbished, thus in great condition.
The tubing is Columbus SL, the classic choice for the finest bikes from the 1970s to the mid 1980s. And as for parts we find a Campagnolo groupset formed by Campagnolo Triomphe parts. One of the last attempts of Campagnolo to just slightly alter the look of their old Record parts while keeping the technical side the same.
In many ways this bike is standing between a change of generations regarding road bikes. Just a year later or so and Columbus SLX or oversized steel tubes would start to become dominant in the top class range and the Campagnolo C-Record groupset with its iconic modern look would push the classical design approach to the side.
This makes our Gibi not only very adorable but also a perfect bike for classic cycling events like L'Eroica. While its great condition would also grant it a function as a fun weekend ride.
