Mondonico classic road bicycle from the 1980s. Giuseppe Mondonico was a skilled Italian frame builder from Concorezzo, a small town close to Milan. Together with his brother, he started producing in 1929 handmade steel frames using mostly Columbus and Falck tubes. After the founder's death in 1973, Antonio Mondonico run the family enterprise for roughly 25 years and built also frames for third companies - among which Gianni Motta and Colnago - and for many champions, as Claudio Chiappucci.

Antonio Mondonico is known for his skill and elaborate techniques, which make these bikes so special. One of them is how is the whole frame assembled. In majority of cases, the tubes and luggs are fixed in a jig, joints are heated to a brazing temperature and then "tacked" together with a small amount of brass. The frame is then alighned before the final brazing. Although this technique is much faster, heating up the tubes twice can lead to altering their characteristics. Mondonico uses much more time consuming, but actually gentler procedure. He drilled to all lug-tube connection a tiny hole and inserted a tapered steel pin. The pins are then filed flush after the brazing. When you take a look inside the bottom bracket for example, you will fined these pins in our frame.

This Mondonico is a true beauty from the late 1980s. The frame is made of Columbus SLX tubes with internal helical reinforcements. As on nearly all mondonico frames, also our frame has the beautiful setback seat stays. 

An on top it is painted in neon yellow colour, making it a true headturner on a road.
