Even though the top aluminium frames were lighter and carbon was collecting the first big wins in pro-peloton, many customers still preferred the compliance and handcrafted beauty of steel. An it's the very much the same reason why the steel frame are still popular to this day.
This Colnago is a great base for your next project. With its 130 mm rear spacing and short dropouts it is capable of modern 11 or 12 speed drivetrains (or indeed lower) and it will look splendid as a postmodern build with some silver or black parts.
