The Somec, or the 'Societa Mechanica', was a group formed by Giro d'Italia mechanic Oliviero Gallegati in the 1960s, in order to set the standards in a frame building field. He then opened a workshop in Lugo, Italy and named it after the mentioned group - 'Somec'. The Somec builds bicycles in very small volume, so almost every bicycle is unique in a certain way.
This Somec Elite illustrates it nicely with its dual colour paintjob with fades. The frame is made of Columbus Thron tubes, quite thin-walled double butted tubeset, which was very popular for TIG welded frames. The welds on our Somec are then filed so the transitions from tube to tube are extra smooth. The bike is equipped with Shimano Dura-Ace 8-speed groupset from the 90s. A sweet bonus certainly is the freshly hand built wheelset with NOS Ambrosio rims.Somecs are always special and many vintage bicycle lovers have a soft spot them. Great bike for for everyday rides with plenty of Italian flare.
