SOcietà MECcanica was founded in 1973 by Oliviero Gallegati in Lugo di Romagna (Italy). Being a rather small manufacturer, Somec did not produce many bicycles, especially in the beginnings. Besides perfect craftsmanship they became famous in the 1980s for the use of advanced tubings, lugs and their special paintjobs. A fame which they nourished by their flamboyant and technically perfect bikes of the 1990s.
Our Somec Pro Max is one of these fine masterpieces.
As for the tubing it is a complete set of Columbus MAX. Everything on this tubeset was designed a bit beefier and stronger, which makes MAX frames some of the strongest steel frames around with legendary riding qualities.
Instead of using lugs, which for such large tubes need to be extra strong and thus heavy, Somec decided to connect the tubes lugless. The execution is perfect.
These smooth transitions between tubes really stand out, especially under the refurbished fiery red paint.
Such a high performing frame deserves nothing less than the best parts possible -Campagnolo Record groupset completed with Campagnolo Shamal wheels.
This classic 90s steel bike makes for a great ride with great looks!
