De Rosa Titanio Classic Road Bike 1990s

While Ugo De Rosa was one of the most influential and famous frame builders especially of the 1970s and 1980s, his preferred material to work with had been steel. He knew how to shape it how to choose tubes and how to connect them to form a perfect road bike.

When in the late 1980s everybody started to experiment with new stuff for frame building, Ugo stayed sceptical. Not only were frames built from aluminium or carbon fiber less pleasing to the eyes of somebody with a sense for classic aesthetics, they also were not really offering any huge advantages yet. At least TIG welding was embraced as an improvement over brazed steel frame building and it was this very method which opened the door to finally work with a new material: titanium.

It was probably the merit of Ugo's son Doriano de Rosa, that the old brand started to build finely tuned, precisely manufactured titanium bikes.

Though manufactured at a small scale, De Rosa titanium bikes have been among the most beautiful exemplars available. The typical attention to detail was transferred to creating perfect welding seams, a flawless surface treatment and classy geometries.

Our De Rosa Titanio is one of those bikes.

It comes with a polished surface and cleaned cover passes at the joints. Together with the Campagnolo Record groupset it is a real 1990s dream bike.

De Rosa frames made from titanium have a certain timeless aura, which partly derives from the metal itself not suffering from oxidation as much as others and partly from it being notoriously hard to shape. Funny curves or fancy details are rarely an option and not really helpful when working with titanium. Clean lines and the pure layout of the geometry really shine through.

This De Rosa Titanio is a true masterpiece.
