Description
Founded as Bicycle and Metal Works L. Bauer & Co in 1911 in Frankfurt, Germany, Bauer started a major engagement in the production of bicycles and motorcycles from 1914 on. They remained in this business until they eventually had to shut down their facilities in 1968. They supported a racing team and single riders well into the 1950s. Their most famous success were the UCI world championships in 1952. Two of their riders made it to the podium, with Heinz Müller and Ludwig Hörmann coming in first and third.
Our bike has been built around one of these Bauer frames. It is the Bauer Super Sport model and it stems from the 1950s. It arrived in our workshop as a bare frame and we decided to bring it back to life and put it on a road, where it belongs.
We were willing to take a risk and equippe this 70 years old frame with a mix of fine vintage and brand new parts and as you can see, it paid off. The contrast of quality 1950s steel frame and silver new parts sets this bike apart. Now it's a great urban cruiser which will serve you every day if you would be up to. To the comfort which you could expect from a steel frame and 32 mm Panaracer tyres it's surprisingly agile as well.
If you are looking for a rather unusual yet stylish bike, than you shouldn't miss this one.
