Description
Bottecchia is a very traditional company which started as the small cyclery of Carnielli and was improved in 1924 by Ottavio Bottecchia, the first Italian Tour de France winner (1924, 1925). A new company with a new name “Bottecchia” was born after the mysterious and tragic death of Ottavio Bottecchia in 1926.
The bicycles they produced were high end pieces which carried numerous champions to victory.
They also provided many professional team with their bikes, most notably team Malvor, Scic or ADR. Many might still remember how Greg Lemond won his 1989 Tour de France on a Bottecchia.
And here we present you Bottecchia road bike of team Malvor from 1988. It supposedly belonged to the Argentinian rider Gabriel Ovidio Curuchet, a successful rider which excelled mainly on track. He won two gold medals on Panamerican games in pursuit and madison, but also triumphed twice in the national championships in the road race.
The frame is made of Columbus TSX tubes, which are very stiff thanks to helical inner reinforcements in the top and down tube, which is unlike for example by SLX in the whole length of the tube. Apart of the classic details like the chromed lugs or the sloping for crown, it also features Cinelli "spoiler" bottom bracket. The original team paintjob is slightly different to stock models, with some fading red paint on the chromed seat stays.
As a team bike, it is still equipped almost fully with original parts. The Mavic parts are often with team issue mark and the Wolber rims feature Bottecchia stickers. The brakes and SSC cockpit are from Modolo, Miche seatpost and Micheline Hi-Lite tyres.
This genuine team bike in iconic Malvor colours, racing parts and great frame is a great opportunity for your classic bicycle collection.
