Description
Catalano bikes were made in Finale Ligure at the Italian coast between San Remo and Genua.
The frames are said to have been built by Mario Vallega. When taking a look at the lugs of our 1970s bike, it is instantly recognisable that a master builder swung his torch here. The lugs are fine pieces the like of which you would also find on Masi bikes of this time. The tubing is the then most popular one for professional level Italian bikes, the Columbus SL.
Other fine details include engraved seat stay caps an integrated fork crown and a brazed on head tube logo.
The correct name of our model here is Catalano Special Super Record. And the name is referring to the Super Record shifting of the first generation which found its way onto this frame. This top of the line system of Campagnolo was built with light aluminium and titanium parts to save some weight and also allowed to run a 28t rear sprocket!
All the other parts are from the Campagnolo Record family, too, with the hubs being recently laced to Nisi clincher rims - a welcome simplification regarding a tire change.
Our Catalano is perfectly fit for classic bicycle events and would be most suited to take part in L'Eroica.
