Description

Colnago Carbitubo classic bicycle from the 1980s

This bicycle has no steel frame but that doesn't mean there is a lack of interesting background stories and appeal.

Here we present a true revolutionary machine from the 1980s. At this time, Ernesto Colnago was looking for ways to push the boundaries of performance cycling and thus decided to use different materials and frame geometries. He started to cooperate with Ferrari and came out with this bike.

The frame is made of carbon fiber tubes inserted into aluminium lugs and, beside that, shows a unique geometry with a double-tube down tube which makes the bike very stiff.

The geometry was inspired by the 1986 developed aluminium model Duall. The carbon techniques were a byproduct of the developement of the CarbonVolo monocoque

Nobody less than Giuseppe Saronni helped Colnago with the design, making it his very own advancement. The whole frame is stunningly and precisely manufactured. The trust of many great riders of its age, such as Moreno Argentin and Bjarne Riis, Olaf Ludwig and many other professionals speaks for itself. Tony Rominger even claims it to be his favourite frame of all times and is known to have half a dozen of them in his garage!
Since this is one of the very early Carbitubos, it is equipped with a Campagnolo Super Record group set.

An icon of modern cycling history.
