Description
When Tony Rominger set his legendary hour record, he did so on a Colnago track bike. In fact, it was a very similar bike to the one which we are selling here. The low profile frameset has been built using both some classic lugs and some advanced fillet brazing techniques.
The frame comes with a fin behind the head tube which both stiffens the front triangle and improves the aerodynamics. Very delicate steel tubes have been used for this construction some special shapes are to be found like ovalised down tube and seat tube plus a cigar-shaped and profiled top tube which reminds of the Colnago Tecnos. The rear stays are slim and wide.
This rare Colnago CX Krono was definitely built to make its rider turning rounds in the velodrome as fast as possible. An even though it comes with a rear disc, some pedals and a heavy cockpit, the whole bike weighs only 8.5kg! That is fairly light for an aero machine of this time. And it underlines the assumption that this was a pro-machine.
As for the parts, the bike has been built with some nice quality components, including a Shimano Dura-Ace track gearing.
Here is a bicycle that appeals to collectors not only for its scarcity but also for impressive riding characteristics. We had a test ride on it, and this beast is flying!
