Colnago Mexico Oro Classic Road Bike 1970s

Colnago Mexico Oro Classic Road Bike from the 1970s Released in 1972 to celebrate Eddy Merckx's world hour record which had been set in Mexico City, the Colnago Mexico was basically a development of the older Colnago Super: same geometry but thinned Columbus SL tubes and thinned lugs. Colnago manufactured two different versions of the Mexico before launching the Nuovo Mexico in 1982.

This Colnago Mexico is a second generation model, with rear brake cable guides brazed on the top-tube and short rear dropouts.

The Mexico has always been beloved for its frame geometry, as this model in great condition shows. But what made it even more desirable is the gold plating which was applied to the Columbus fork, chain stays and head tube lugs: Simply rarer, more captivating and a great contrast to the purple paint.

Being a 1970s model, this Colnago Mexico is equipped just with high-end parts from the correct period, such as a complete Campagnolo Record groupset. Many of the parts are pantographed and milled.
Altogether it weighs in at just 8.9 kilograms!
