Description

The Colnago Mexico Oro perfectly embodied Ernesto Colnago's vision: be creative and stay in public discourse. As it happened in 1979, he manufactured a batch of roughly 100 exemplars of a gold-plated version of the legendary Mexico frame and donated the frame number one to nobody else than Pope John Paul II. Since then, this bicycle has become an icon of the history of cycling and has appealed to avid collectors worldwide.
Subsequently in the following years a few bikes have been made for which the original 1979 model had been kind of a prototype - just like our Mexico from 1981.

Known for its lightness, the Colnago Mexico Oro has been built with Columbus tubing with thinner walls than the Columbus SL of the Super series. This particular Colnago Mexico Oro had been newly plated and gold plated as an expert can detect by the microstructure of the surface.
It is fitted with pantographed Campagnolo Super Record parts. In fact, almost everything has been engraved: brakes, pedals, hubs, seatpost, chainring etc.

Even in this standard setup including a heavily plated frame plus pedals and whithout any extra lightweight tuning parts, the bike weighs about 9.4 kg.
This is a very respectable result!

A monument of the glorious Colnago history. The perfect bicycle to revive the golden age of cycling.
