Description
One of the most iconic bikes which left the famous Colnago factory in Cavenago (Milan, Italy), the first Colnago Mexico was produced to celebrate Eddy Merckx' 1972 world hour record. The Colnago Mexico was slightly different from the Colnago Super - built with even thinner Columbus tubes - but shared with that glorious bike the aggressive racing geometry: short, light and very stiff.
The next step in its evolution was the Colnago Nuovo Mexico first released in 1982 and immediately brought to victory by Giuseppe Saronni in the 1982 World Championships. It was built with profiled Columbus SL tubes which had distinctive crimps at the top and down tube.
This particular Colnago Nuovo Mexico Profil is even a bit younger and belongs to the third Mexico series, with two crimps at the top tube and four at the down tube. The Columbus SL frameset has the typical Colnago bottom bracket but all the other lugs are different from Colnago's standard Prugnat choice. And that is because it was specifically made as a small batch for a cycling Team from Liechtenstein.
Roman Hermann did not only own a famous cycling shop but he was also the best cyclist of Liechtenstein in the 1980s. His Team was co-sponsored by Colnago, Gipiemme and his own cycling center. Thus we find a lot of Hermann brandings on this build.
Another particularity is the groupset. Due to the sponsor, this bike is fitted with a completeGipiemme gruppo - something you rarely see. Even a special front derailleur mount is included!
