Description
strong>Colnago Nuovo Mexico Oro 50th anniversary Released in 1972 to celebrate Eddy Merckx's world hour record which had been set in Mexico City, the Colnago Mexico was basically a development of the older Colnago Super: same geometry but thinned Columbus tubes and thinned lugs. Colnago manufactured two different versions of the Mexico before finally launching the Nuovo Mexico in 1982.
This Colnago Nuovo Mexico is an authentic frame from 1982/1983 with its distinctive crimped up and down tube.
The Nuovo Mexico has always been beloved for its performance and elegance. just think of Giuseppe Saronni and how he rode to his victory in the 1982 world championships on a Nuovo Mexico.
But what makes this bike even more desirable is the rare gold plating which was applied to the Columbus fork, chain stay and head lugs: Simply rarer, more captivating and a great contrast to the black paint.
Which groupset could make an already rare bike to something highly collectible? - Right!
This Colnago is equipped with a Campagnolo 50th anniversary groupset. The gold crested groupset has only manufactured in a number of 15000 exemplars to celebrate the 50th birthday of Tullio Campagnolo's company.
The limited number of this groupset and their pleasing design makes it one of the most expensive sets of components so far.
So in the ranks of collectible bikes from 1983, this Colnago Nuovo Mexico Oro find its well earned place.
