Colnago Nuovo Mexico Oro Gold Road Bike 1982

When Eddy Merckx smashed the World Hour Record on a Colnago track bike, Ernesto decided to celebrate this success by introducing a further developed version of the Colnago Super. He called it this bike the Colnago Mexico. And until the indroduction of the Colnago Master in the mid 1980s, the Mexico line always was the top tier of what Colnago offered the customers.

Made mostly of Columbus Rekord steel tubes, with a short, stiff and light frame, the Colnago Super was designed for high-performance.

From about 1982 on, Colnago offered a version which was called the Nuovo Mexico. Its main difference to its predecessors was a crimped tubing that was used for the top tube and down tubes, as well as a newly developed aero fork crown and a stronger investment cast bottom bracket.

This particular Colnago Nuovo Mexico Oro dates back to the 1982 and let's cut to the chase it's simply stunning. It's so opulent it's quite hard to pick something to start with. And as you can see, the overwhelming theme here is nothing less than gold and pantographs.

The Columbus tubes are being connected with lugs, which have been gold plated. That same treatment underwent also the fork and the rear stays. And we can continue with the parts. The pantographed Campagnolo Super Record gruppo and other parts - all top level racing equipment - just perfectly fit this rare piece.

It's also fully checked and serviced in our workshop. As mouthwatering as this bike is, it is also still a very good ride and if you would fancy some kilometers on something excellent as this: it is perfectly capable of taking you on any trip or even a rough classic cycling event.
