Description

One of the most iconic bikes which left the famous factory in Cavenago (Milan, Italy), the first Colnago Mexico was produced to celebrate Eddy Merckx' 1972 world hour record. The Colnago Mexico was slightly different from the Colnago Super - built with even thinner Columbus tubes - but shared with that glorious bike the aggressive racing geometry: short, light and very stiff.

The next step in its evolution was the Colnago Nuovo Mexico first released in 1982 and immediately brought to victory by Giuseppe Saronni in the 1982 World Championships. It was built with profiled Columbus SL tubes which had distinctive crimps at the top and down tube.

This particular Colnago Nuovo Mexico Profil dates back to 1983 and belongs to the third Mexico series, with two crimps at the top tube and four at the down tube. The Columbus SL frameset is fully fitted with a Campagnolo Super Record Gruppo from 1983 as well which illustrates typical Colnago pantographed details. A details like the number holder is a clear indicator that this frameset was built for serious racing.

Arrived at Steel Vintage Bikes in original condition, this Colnago underwent a full service in our workshop where our mechanics inspected, cleaned, oiled and adjusted all components. Chain, cables and bar tape have been replaced. Tires have been kept original: nothing less than Vittoria Corsa CM Squadra Corse. Perhaps another indicator that we are dealing with a professional bike?

A vintage bicycle with racing pedigree. Ready to race!
