Description

Few bicycles have influenced the cycling industry as much as the Colnago Super. At a time when racing bicycles were averagely heavy with long wheelbases and flat angles, Ernesto Colnago released a bicycle which would become a legend of cycling history and the top model of his 1970s catalogue - the Super.

Made of Columbus SL steel tubes - with a shorter, stiffer and lighter frame - the Colnago Super was designed for high-performance. Since its launch, many racing bicycles have been built with a geometry inspired by the Super.

This Colnago Super dates back to 1981 and is not only equipped with nice pantographed parts and Campagnolo Nuovo Record shifting. It also has a set of rare and exotic PMP L-shaped cranks.

These cranks were the latest craze in the early 1980s. The unique form was meant to improve distribution of the energy required in pedaling and to create a perfectly round stroke. The design should increases the pedal's propulsion power and lessen energy dispersion on the downstroke.
Riders actually claimed that when pedalling at low cadence and uphills, they actually felt this effect. Their position in the saddle changed and they felt that the dead spot in their stroke was almost eliminated.

From a scientific point of view the cranks are more of a design gag than a game changer but for some years, everybody wanted at least to test some.
They were not the first angled cranks on the market and not the last either but until today they are the ones that are instantly remembered when the talk comes to funny cranks.
They are even highly collectible now.

Together with our Campagnolo Super, these cranks form a more than just interesting 1980s road bike. An eyecatcher of the finest!
Suitable for Eroica events.
