Colnago Super Saronni Large Road Bicycle 1970s

Few bicycles have influenced the cycling scene as much as the Colnago Super. At a time when racing bicycles were averagely heavy, with long wheelbases and flat angles, Ernesto Colnago released a frameset which would become a legend of cycling history and one of the top models of his 1970s and 1980s catalogues – the Super.

Made of Columbus SL steel tubes, with a shorter, stiffer and lighter frame, the Colnago Super was designed for high-performance. Since the launch, uncountable racing bicycles have been built with a geometry inspired by the Super.

This particular Colnago Super Road Bike dates back to 1970s and with it's size 62, it is definitely a large bike for large riders. It has been refurbished and it received a classic "Sarroni red" paintjob. This frame has one interesting twist though, which sets it apart of standard Super of it's time. The most obvious is a different bottom bracket, which doesn't show the standard ace of clubs cut out. Instead of it, there is a one with 4 oval holes and the cable routing is placed underneath it. We honestly don't know what the reason was, if it has been specially made, replaced later or if it was to make the whole rear stay stronger (being a large frame) with new chain stays. The truth remains that it is a genuine Colnago Super and the frame is straight as if it would be made following a laser guide.

As for the components, it is equipped with Campagnolo Nuovo Record gruppo, Cinelli cockpit, Mavic rims and and NOS Larcia leather saddle.

Big size Colnago Super in iconic Sarroni red. Great for a classic cycling event or just for a nice ride.
