Description
During the socialist era of eastern Germany (then the German Democratic Republic) the old bicycle manufacture Elite Diamant was turned into a government run "people owned company". From the late 1940s on, the VEB Elite-Diamant factory in the city of Karl Marx Stadt produced some of the nicest sports bikes of the GDR. In the beginning they were on a similar level to other high class European sports bikes. With the years however, they failed to modernise the design of their machines and notorious shortage of good materials in mass production conservated a look and technique that fell more and more behind the one of those progressive bikes from Italy and other countries.
What seemed a bit old fashioned back then, gives old Diamant bikes a great vintage look today. So we decided to help this Diamant steel road bicycle from the 1970s to a new life. Some of the original parts were preserved and some were exchanged for reliable alternatives. The classy frame runs now on brand new wheels for example, which with their 32mm width can easily cushion away the impact of eastern german cobble stone alleys. If you are looking for a bike with some socialist style and capitalist comfort, this Diamant would be a great catch.
