Description

After retiring from competitions, the great Champion Eddy Merckx started setting up a bicycle manufacture. Since he wanted to build the best road bikes possible, he managed to engage one of the best frame builders of all time to help him in designing the frames and teaching other frame builders. And as it happened Ugo de Rosa - The Master welded the first frames of the Eddy Merckx Professional and helped Eddy in the first business years. In no time, Merckx estabilshed a company which provided top quality frames to the best riders od the world with models like the Professional or the Corsa Extra. From the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s the Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra was one of the best road bicycles you could get and also the choice of many professional teams. It dominated the peloton with its extremely well-made triangle of light and stiff Columbus SLX tubes ("superbutted" tubeset from Cyclex steel, designed for professional use with helical inner reinforcements on the end of the tubes). But some riders felt the need for a slightly different design. Which was the point where the Eddy Merckx Century TSX was developed.
For long distance racing or riding many professionals preferred a position which put them a bit farther back on their bike than might be called for in a shorter race. To answer this need Eddy Merckx introduced the Century. This design features a slightly more relaxed seat angle than Eddy's standard road racing models and was offered with TSX tubing (which had helical reinforcements on the full length inside of the tube). This tubing combined with the geometry yields a bike which is comfortable and stable under virtually all riding conditions, yet which can be ridden in hard competition.
On top, our exemplar is built with a chromed rear triangle which had been ordered as an extra.
The appropriate groupset for such a bike cannot be anything but top notch. In this case you find Campagnolo C-Record componentry. Ah, you get the point: a real dream.
