Description
The Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra road bike was the top of the line product by the Eddy Merckx brand from the mid 1980s to the 1990s.
It was ridden to victory by a series of professional riders during the 1980s and early 1990s. The frame was famous for its reliability and strength in competition. Usually it was built from Columbus SLX tubing but our exemplar here is something different.
It is one of the rare pieces which have been executed in Reynolds 753 tubing.
The steel has been heat treated and then was drawn to thinner tube gauges than would have been possible with regular steels. Building these tubes into a frame required expert craftsmanship because a realignment of the frame after it was brazed was almost impossible. Also, the temperature at which a frame has to be brazed when using Reynolds 753 has to be kept within a very narrow range.
A frame like that needs some nice paintjob, wouldn't you agree? Well, here you go: the iconic paint scheme of the 1980s Team Panasonic is what our 753 is adorned with. As for the parts, a complete Campagnolo C-Record groupset with Delta brakes is the fitting componentry for such a masterpiece
The bike has been completely checked in our workshop, which means it is ready to ride. Tires, cables, chain, saddle and bar tape have been replaced.
This is a really nice steed for your weekend rides, or your Eroica adventure.
