When Eddy Merckx, the most winning professional rider of all time, retired from racing, he set up his own frame manufacturing company. With guidance of the most skilled frame builders, especially Ugo De Rosa, the Eddy Merckx cycling works started to produce high-end frames.

The top of the line model for the first five years was the Professional which was made of Columbus SL tubing. From 1985 on it was the Corsa Extra. This extremely successful model was one of the best road bike frames you could get and therefore the choice of many professional teams. It dominated the peloton with its extremely well made triangle of light and rigid Columbus SLX tubes. But Merckx went onwards and decided to manufacture even more rigid frames with modern oversized and ovalised Columbus MAX tubing. Eventually this development resulted in the MX Leader which many enthusiastic riders call the best steel frame of all time.But for a short time there was a rare and exceptionally elegant model in between, the Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra Columbus MAX.
This is exactly the frame we present here. And not only does it have the smooth early Columbus MAX fork, but it is also coloured in the Team Motorola paint scheme

Apart from the frame, this bicycle sports a very nice groupset formed by Shimano Dura Ace parts.
