Description
In the late 1980s and early 1990s the Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra was one of the best road bike frames available and therefore the choice of many professional teams. It dominated the peloton with its extremely precisely made triangle of light and rigid Columbus SLX tubes. The SLX was a "superbutted" tubeset from Cyclex steel. Designed for professional use, it is famous for its helical reinforcements on the inner side of the butted sections.
Our Merckx is one of those superb machines, and it sports the colours of the German Team Stuttgart. They rode the Corsa Extra in the years 1989 and 1990. To our opinion this is one of the most beautiful of the classic Eddy Merckx team paint schemes. Team Stuttgart went on to become Team Telekom and thus was the cradle of one of the most successful cycling teams of the 1990s.
This bike here has been outfitted with excellent parts which are formed by a Campagnolo Croce d'Aune groupset, including the iconic Delta brakes and rather rare and beautiful pedals. It is an almost perfectly preserved piece of 1980s cycling history.
The bike has been checked in our workshop and is ready to go.
