Eddy Merckx Professional Donna Ladies Eroica Bike 1980s

The Eddy Merckx Professional was the top model of the early 1980s Eddy Merckx catalogue. After retiring from competitions, the great Champion Eddy Merckx started setting up a bicycle manufacture. Since he wanted to build the best road bikes possible, he engaged simply the best frame builder to help him with designing the frames and teaching other frame builders: Ugo De Rosa.

1980s Eddy Merckx Professionals have appealed to collectors from all around the globe ever since. Much rarer than the men's version is the ladies frame, which is a classic anglais construction and which used basically the same materials than the typical diamond shaped Professionals.

Our frame - serial number A E5478 - dates back to about 1984-1986 and is in original condition. It is made from light, butted Columbus SL tubes and has a nicely chromed fork as an extra.

As for the components, this Eddy Merckx Professional is equipped with a great Campagnolo Nuovo Record groupset. Several parts are new old stock, like the saddle, the handlebar tape and the Everest freewheel. Everything else has been checked and serviced.

Ready to go, this bike would be a great machine for Eroica races. That is also why we outfitted it with a pair of puncture protected Panaracer tires, known for their low rolling resistance. The extra grip and cushioning are welcome side effects.
The crankset is a special one, too:
It can be converted to a triple chainset, by attaching a fitting chainring to the prepared threads. How cool is that?
