This Elio Record Classic Road Bicycle from the 1960s is a real top class bike of its time with the look of a grand seigneur.
Elio is an Italian brand from Orbassano (Turin) which built absolute stunning top notch frames in small numbers for many decades. Like for quite a few of the brands of the area surrounding the city, true masters made the frames, some were built by Giuseppe Pelà, who also soldered for Merckx and Anquetil, or Galmozzi. Later Elio frames were often made by Giuseppe Villata, one of the most skilled frame builders of Turin.
Our Elio has everything a road cyclist could wish for in the 1960s.
The frame is made of high class butted tubing Columbus offered at that time and illustrates a typical fork crown of many Galmozzi frames. These "tubi rinforzati" have been connected by excellent lugs which have been filed to elegant forms. The 'birds tongue' on the downside of the seat lug for example reminds very much of the style Faliero Masi used on his Gran Criterium bikes.
The frame has been painted in a moderate colour scheme which was popular back then. We refurbished it to the original hue. The minimalist Elio decals complement the paintjob quite perfectly.
The groupset is of course the best one that was available: the legendary Campagnolo Record (which should be developed later and with very much the same technical features survived until 1987).
The rest of the parts is top notch, too, like the Idéale saddle for example or the 3ttt cockpit.
This is a small bike and with its 50cm frame and narrow handlebar it is exceptionally well suited for shorter riders.
A showpiece for somebody who has a real crush on beautiful vintage bikes. Riding this racer on a historic cycling event is almost inevitable.
