In 1921, the first shop of London cyclist Frederick W. Evans opened on the Kennington Road in south east London. Trading from this site for the span of three decades, F.W Evans Cycles built up a strong reputation. They became quite famous for building their own frames and bikes. They even earned the Cyclists Touring Club's (CTC) award for ‘The greatest improvement in cycle design, construction or equipment during the year 1925’.
One of their absolute top models of the 1930s is what we present to you here: The F.W. Evans Steelight Lightweight Road Bike.
Not only is the frame sensational, built with the then new Reynolds 531 butted steel tubing. But also the parts are the finest of their time. Resilion Cantilever brakes bring the bike to a safe stop. Bluemels extra thin "Noweight" mudguards show, how much of a weight-weenie Evany could be. Extra-Comfortable 'Constrictor' rubber grips made long days in the saddle more than bearable for your hands. The Sturmey-Archer gear hub has enough transition to enable climbing as well as fast race speeds.
We wanted to keep the bike as authentic as possible while staying rideable. We are happy that it worked (except for a 1930s saddle). To keep you safe, we even sell this bike with a New Old Stock set of Resilion brake pads!
