Description

Frejus is brand which really has played a major role in the heyday of Italian cycling.

Founded in 1896 by Emmo Ghelfi in Turin, the company embodies the most prestigious Italian heritage. It was subsequently acquired by Emilio Bozzi - owner of Legnano. Truly handcrafted and equipped just with the best components, Frejus bikes led a young Gino Bartali to his first victories in the 1930s.

Many avid collectors out there have dreamed to own and ride such classy bicycles. This Frejus Corsa was designed as a pure racing bike, which will excell on almost any road. It comes with surprisingly steep angles for its time thus is a quite swiftly handling machine. It comes with an unusual set of oiler ports at the bottom bracket and the head tube.

It is equipped with the famous rod-operated first Campagnolo shifting, the so-called Campagnolo Cambio Corsa.

What is rather unique is the size of the frame which is quite large for Italian bikes of this era. The fact that this bike comes without a serial number but with engraved initials (M.C.) under the bottom bracket makes it likely that the frame was built to the special request of someone. It might even have been a team frame since Mario Ciolli was a part of the Frejus Team from 1950 on. Unfortunately the frame has been restored by the previous owner who left only the parts unrestored. Thus some additional information is now gone.

Anyway, this is a piece of cycling history which could enlarge any serious collection and is absolutely good enough to be ridden at historic cycling events.
