Description

Cicli Gamba is a traditional family owned bike shop in Bergamo, northern Italy. It was founded in 1947 by Sandro Gamba, a strong amateur cyclist who had raced in the national 'azzurro' jersey and won many races including the Italian time trial championships. He also was a friend of the Coppi family and raced with Fausto Coppi's brother Serse in the Azzini Milano team.

The bike we are presenting here has a frame which is branded Gamba but was made by Alan.

The Alan story starts in 1972 with Falconi Lodovico. The name ALAN is, quite poetically, a composition of the names of his son ALberto and his daughter Annamaria. And also, less poetically, stands for ALuminium ANodised. ALAN is best known for lugged aluminium bicycle frames. They have been incredibly successful in cyclocross races. Since they had all the expertise necessary to build a reliable aluminium frame, they were contracted and built their bikes for many other companies, from small brands to Colnago

This Gamba frame shows perfectly how nice and neat these lugged Aluminium frames are. It even has a flattened top tube, like the serial world championships winning cyclocross models had.
It is equipped with great parts in great condition. Our Gamba was assembled with notorious consecutive climbs in mind, like you will experience when riding L'Eroica. Therefore the heart of the componentry and real kicker on this bike is the drivetrain and shifting. A triple chainset and the great Campagnolo shifting allow you to reduce your transmission to 36/33. This is a real painkiller. And it comes as a salvation for those with knee problems.
To make sure that you can stop at will, the Gamba is decelerated by the top class Swiss Weinmann Carrera 400 brakes.
This blue beauty will give you wings when it comes to exhausting climbing and safely carry you over rough roads.
A ride for the most demanding of historic bicycle races.
