Description
Gazelle is the largest bicycle manufacturer in the Netherlands and has been producing bikes of all levels since 1902. The brand is associated with reliability and quality, bikes for the everyday. However Gazelle, particularly in the late 1980s and 1990s was also at the forefront of high end road bicycle production, and our Champion Mondial AA - 653 Bicycle from 1991 is an example of a handcrafted, high quality and rare bicycle.
The proof is in the details. Upon close inspection of this bike it is clear that it is a quality frame. Built from the very rare Reynolds 653 tubing, which translates to a 1989 innovation to combine different steels in one frame to optimise performance and comfort. This means that the rear stays are made of the stiff and light Reynolds 753, the main triangle of professional grade Reynolds 531SL tubes and the fork of the better dampening 'normal' Reynolds 531. The lugs and careful details at the dropouts and brazed Gazelle covers on the top tube cable routing, top off this special frame, setting it a peg above the rest.
The 'AA' signature means, that the frame has a slightly shorter wheelbase than standard models, giving enhanced maneuverability and a nimble feeling to it. The glossy grey and pearly teal paintjob is a stunning combination, 1990s nostalgia at its best.
To match the quality frame this bike has been decked out with a full Campagnolo Athena groupset, Campagnolo Atlanta 1996 high profile clincher rims and of to match Gazelle by Time pedals. A rare and quality bicycle, our Gazelle has been fully checked by our mechanics and is in perfect riding condition.
