Description
Produced between 1983 and 1986, the Gios Professional was a racing bike developed by Gios together with the famous rider Roger De Vlaeminck. 1983 marked the tenth anniversary of the winning partnership between the great Belgian rider and the Torinese brand. To celebrate this, Gios released a new model for the upcoming season with the professional Clement Team. The new framset was basicallly and improvement of the already performing Gios Super Record. Its main features were:
- internally routed waterproof brake cable
- investment cast aero sloping fork crown
- investment cast bottom bracket shell with incorporated bridge
- investment cast seat lug with incorporated binder block
On the way to the final outcome of the model, there were a very few prototypes which lacked the internally routed waterproof brake cable. As far as we have been told by Mr. Aldo Gios, at the time when the professional Celement Team had to be presented to the press, they were still waiting the special rubber seals to be delivered.
One of these very first prototypes is this Gios Torino Professional from 1983, which has been furthermore refurbished at the Italian factory of Gios Torino and registered (No. 165) in the Official Gios Torino registry.
Just as the pictured bicycle with Roger De Vlaeminck from 1983, this exemplar of Gios Torino Professional was built wihout the internally routed rear brake cable, which was eventually added in late 1983.
And as if this would not make it rare enough, our bike comes with nothing less than the renowned superbe Campagnolo 50th anniversary groupset from 1983 (serial no. 12697), which together with the frame forms an excellent, reliable and agile sportster.
The sought-after groupset and the rare type of frame turn this bike into a rare and collectible racer, a piece of cycling history for true connoisseurs.
Fully refurbished and thoroughly checked. Suitable for L'Eroica or other historic cycling events.
