Description
Gitane - a name which means 'Gypsy lady' in French - is a brand which was synonymous with French bicycle racing from the 1960s through the mid-1980s, sponsoring riders such as Jacques Anquetil, Lucien Van Impe, Bernard Hinault (1975–1983), Laurent Fignon, and Greg LeMond.
In the Tour de France, Gitane was the most successful bike brand regarding the general classification. (That was until team Sky started to dominate with Pinarello in recent years.) Three world championships and two world hour records add to their palmarès.
In the mid 1970s their top models were the Olympic and the Super Olympic with chromed stays and forks. A frame made from Reynolds 531. These models were sold in the US under a different name: the Super Corsa.
Most people might remember them because they were the first bikes on which Gitane introduced the famous honeycomb rear dropouts. Back in the day the Olympic and Super Corsa models were surprisingly pricey, at least if compared with the more traditional professional Peugeot racing bikes.
And here we present one of those sweet pieces, a Gitane Olympic classic racing bike which was approximately made in 1975.
It still runs smoothly, the easy-to-use Michelin clincher tires provide the necessary grip while the Mafac center pull brakes bring you to a safe stop.
This bike is exactly what you are looking for if a reliable ride of steel is needed in partly rough conditions. You could even fit a pair of mudguards to it if you wanted to stay dry in the rain.
A bike for weekends and everyday-rides alike.
