Description
Grandis is one of those traditional Italian brands which are still producing innovative road bikes in Italy to this day. The founder, Silvino Grandis, was involved in lightweight racing bikes since 1930. With the years his expertise grew and he was a technician who was often asked for advice. As mechanic he supported many teams.
By 1965 he started to produce and sell high end bicycles under his name, always supported by his wife Ines. His brand was known for its technical brilliance right from the start and his bikes found him some real fame among cycling enthusiasts. Since Silvino had to be present at many races and business was ever growing, his sons Mario and Ezio stepped in. Together they managed to build up advanced facilities in Verona, including laboratories to test and develop new methods of frame building. Their innovative thinking combined with classical expertise made them one of the most interesting bicycle manufacturers in Italy.
This Grandis Superleggera was their 1970s top model
Our exemplar dates back to the late 1970s and is one of the rarer anglais frames made of light and strong Columbus SL tubes, maybe the best tubing at that time
The frame sure is very classy and rare! A piece of work which belongs to the finest Italian bicycle manufacturing tradition! Just have a look at the nicely lined out lugs and the amazeballs cutouts! It weighs in just under 9kg!
The condition is great and makes this bike a real eyecatcher everytime you ride it
