Legnano Roma Campione Del Mondo Road Bike 1933

When our Legnano Roma Campione Del Mondo has been built in 1933, Legnano was probably the most successful manufacture for road bicycles.
At that time, their bikes had won 4 world championships and 11 Giro d'Italia in the course of 13 years.

Much of this success was due to an incredibly gifted and disciplined rider: Alfredo Binda had earned 3 rainbow jerseys and 5 general classifications at the Giro. He was so dominant that the Gazzetta dello Sport offered him an insane amount of money to miss the Giro of 1930.

As victorious as Binda was, he still remained widely unpopular for a great part of his carreer, compared to his rivals Girardengo and Guerra.
Not until 1932, when he won his third cycling World Championship in Rome, did the public start to warm to him. By then he had redefined both training and racing methodology, and was inarguably the greatest cyclist ever to have lived.

In honour of his victory, the Legnano top model was renamed. The Tipo 54 now became the Roma Campione del Mondo.

The frame is a typical Legnano lugged steel frame made of Falck tubes with the very iconic saddle clamp under the seat lug, the main feature of all high-end bicycles from this Italian brand. It still has the old type chain rings which should disappear soon. The colour is probably what their catalogue called a 'bleu Legnano'.

As shifting serves the legendary Cambio Vittoria Margherita in its early form, which was used by Binda in rome as well as the three speed freewheel. Other highlights to be mentioned are certainly the original Legnano components and the Unversal Super Port brakes brakes.
