Description
Tarcisio Maffioletti opened his bicycle shop in Bergamo, northern Italy, in 1946. Three years after he moved his business few kilometres to the north to the beautiful town Villa d'Almè on the banks of river Brembo. There he started to build racing frames and soon he was able to pass his skills to his older son Giacomo. Maffioletti bikes are not widely known these days, but in the 70s and particularly in the 80s, the high-end models earned a great reputation. It is said that Maffioletti was a great mechanic and he had a great gift of making the perfect bike for a customer, which would fit him like a glove. Maffioletti, unlike many other brands at the time, created the frames by himself and the bikes were also assembled in the family workshop.
And here is one of those bicycles. This Maffioletti Aerodynamic is a beautifully made bicycle with interesting features and great components. The frame is made of light Columbus SL tubes and, as the name of the model suggests, it has some wind cheating details. The shifters are moved on the top of the down tube and the shifting cable guide is brazed unconventionally directly on the drop out. The fork has also the flattened blades made of Columbus Air. Even more impressive than those facts is the way everything is made though. Very precise, clean and elegant.
Another reason why this bike catches ones eye are the parts. The complete Super Record gruppo is upgraded by many Maffioletti pantographes. Then you would find the 3ttt cockpit with NOS Benotto tape or the Nisi rims in excellent condition with slightly wider and comfy Vittoria tires.
This large size bicycle is a perfect choice for someone who will appreciate the masterly crafted frame and will enjoy the nice parts on casual spin or indeed on the ruthless long Eroica rides.
