Martelly Giovanni Road Bike 1980s

Martelly certainly is one of the most significant Belgian frame building shops.
Its roots reach back as far as the 1930s, when former cyclist Arthur Maertens started to make and sell his own frames. After the war, his son took over and continued the success story.
When in the 1980s, Eddy Martens stepped into the footsteps of his predecessors, the name of the company was changed to Martelly. By then the quality of their products was already famous and frames had been made for teams and professional riders as well as widely known brands, like Coppi or Concorde.
Being excellently excecuted, Martelly frames were often mistaken for Colnagos due to their clover-like cross on the lugs.

Our Giovanni is such a Martelly bike. Italian by name it has a frame made in the heart of Belgium.
The tubes are Columbus SL, the light and strong steel which was the choice of champions for many years.
Connected by fine lugs, this frame does not shy away from comparison with any other great European build.
Fully chromed front and rear end, internal cable routing Prugnat lugs and a number holder show even the novice bike expert that this is something way better than a mass production bike.

To complete a top-class racer there it requires fine components. And our Martelly has been outfitted with Campagnolo's top class groupset, the Campagnolo Super Record.
While being technically on the level of a professional bike now, there is still more to come: the extras include a soft leather handlebar cover by Almarc and a rare 3ttt 'Olympic' stem.
