Description
Since 1952 the Masi Atelier - located at the famous Velodromo Vigorelli in Milan - has manufactured some of the finest road bicycles which has been appealing collectors worldwide ever since. A Masi is definitely a bicycle which should not be missing in any serious collection.
Launched in 1970, the Masi Gran Criterium is one of the best bicycles manufactured by the Milanese frame builders. Although they have never disclosed which tubes they used to build their frames, the Gran Criterium was likely built with Columbus SL tubes rather than with Reynolds 531 tubes, more rarely used by Masi.
This Masi Gran Criterium dates back to the early 1970s and was built by one of the greatest Italian frame builders of the 20th century: Giuseppe Pelà. One of the most representative frame builders of the prestigious Torinese tradition, Pelà not only built frames for champions as Eddy Merckx, Jacques Anquetil and Rik Van Looy, but also for famous brands as Gios Torino, Masi and Benotto. Particularly humble, Pelà never wanted his name branded on his frameset.
This Masi Gran Criterium was made by this legend. The frame illustrates the typical Pelà BB shell with four cutouts and underwent a refurbishment by the former owner. Regarding the components, this superb racing machine is equipped with a Campagnolo Nuovo Record groupset, Mavic rims, a Cinelli cockpit and saddle: just the best of everything!
The bike has been carefully checked by our mechanic and is ready to be ridden.
An authentic Italian bike from the golden age of cycling. Suitable for Eroica events.
