Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra Team La William Road Bike 1980s

La William was a Belgian team which appeared in the pro peloton in 1989. In this first year they were riding Eddy Merckx Extra Corsa bikes in easily recognizable yellow, blue and green colourway.

Corsa Extra was one of the best road bike frames available and therefore the choice of many professional teams. It dominated the peloton with its extremely precisely made triangle of light and rigid Columbus SLX tubes. The SLX was a "superbutted" tubeset from Cyclex steel. Designed for professional use, it is famous for its helical reinforcements on the inner side of the butted sections.

Our Merckx is one of those superb machines, and it sports the colours of the team La William. This Belgian squad rode the Corsa Extra in the years 1989 and the easily recognizable yellow, blue and green colourway stood out in the peloton. To opinion of some this is one of the most beautiful of the classic Eddy Merckx team paint schemes.

This bike here has been outfitted with excellent Shimano Dura-Ace 7400 series parts which were equally well race proven as the Corsa Extra frames. They are extremely well made, reliable and running like a clockwork. The whole package is then finished with Cinelli cockpit and Mavic rims. The braze-on number holder then testifies the racing nature of this bike.

Our Corsa Extra is furthermore in very good condition where the paintjob is surprisingly well preserved and the parts are in top shape too. You can see on the parts like chainring, freewheel or the rims, that this bike has been ridden very very briefly.
