Description
In the 1980s, North-East Italy was home to some of the best frame builders, not only big names as Pinarello and Wilier Triestina, but rather small manufacturers who worked outside the spotlight and were though renowned among enthusiasts for their handcrafted works.
Luigi Montagner is exactly one of these talented frame builders. His workshop in Passarella (VE) was a hotbed for fine handcrafted frames, some of them were even made for Francesco Moser and the national Czech and Polish teams.
This Montagner Oro truly embodies Mr. Luigi Montagner notable skills at frame building and attention to details. The Columbus Brain tubing was customised to host all cables internally and the shifter on the top of the down tube, all for an aero-optimised racing silhouette. The amaretto cherry on the top is certainly the real 24k gold plating which the tubing underwent, a clear indicator that Luigi Montagner did not want to save any penny on this extremely unique frameset.
The groupset is nothing less than a Campagnolo 50th Anniversary groupset – serial No. 1276 – simply the most collectible and valuable components in the cycling history. Worth being mentioned are the Everest Oro freewheel and the Regina Oro chain. The hand-built wheels feature 24k gold plated spokes!
Needless to say that this bicycle is in impeccable, original condition and has never been ridden. It has been thoroughly checked in our workshop and works flawlessly.
A bicycle suitable for avid collectors. A piece of fine cycling craftsmanship.
