Description

Nishiki was a bicycle brand created by the West Coast Cycle - one of the most successful American companies in the business. In the 1960s, the company started to look overseas, specifically Japan, to find high quality production for their bikes. The boss of the company visited many dozens of factories before choosing the Kawamura Cycle in the city of Kobe, Japan. The bikes were at first distributed under the name "American Eagle", later changed to Nishiki after the special thread woven into ceremonial wedding kimonos.

Nishiki bikes were produced in quite wide rage of models and levels and distributed basically all over the world - in the US, Canada, Europe and even Australia. Because of the monetary instability in the late 80s, the production has been moved from Japan to Taiwan.
This Nishiki Olympic 12 Road Bicycle stems from 1987 and it is one of the bikes produced for the European market still in Japan. Although a mid-range model, it offeres really decent frame and componentry.

The frame is made of butted Japanese Tange tubes, which are robust yet still reasonably light - a prefect choice for a large bike. But is is not just the frame, as a true Japanese bike almost everything has been manufactured in the land of the rising Sun. Utterly reliable and crispy Suntour shifting, Hata chromed heatset, Araya rims, Dia-Compe brakes with additional levers and many more.

This is all nice, but on top of it, there is the condition. The whole bike has been barely used. It was perhaps ridden for a few kilometers, and the frame, rims, brakes and whole drivetrain is literally like new.

Great chance for tall riders to ride and authentic Japanese machine which came straigh from the past.
